At the Ordinary Council Meeting on 24 July 2024, the Town of Cambridge Council unanimously voted to reject the application to change the use of 114 Cambridge Street to an “Educational Establishment”.
The decision was based on the proposal’s misalignment with the local planning framework. The proposed educational use is inconsistent with the draft West Leederville Precinct Structure Plan, which aims to promote highly activated retail and commercial uses. Additionally, the change is not aligned with the objectives of the mixed-use zone, which seeks to ensure active street-level engagement.
Mayor Gary Mack commented: “Our unanimous decision reflects our commitment to maintaining West Leederville’s strategic planning vision, supporting a vibrant community space that benefits our Town”.
