The Northern Suburbs Men’s Shed has a new home, after Wanneroo Council approved a long-term lease agreement.

At a Council meeting held last week, the Men’s Shed was granted a lease for a portion of reserve at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex.

The Men’s Shed had been given notice to vacate their leased property in Landsdale and had been on the search for a new home for several years.

A new facility is set to be constructed by the Men’s Shed with State Government funding, on land leased by the City on a peppercorn rent. The City has also funded and established road access and parking.

Mayor Linda Aitken said the City was proud to support an association that played such a vital role in the Wanneroo community.

“Community sheds are important organisations that promote health and wellbeing,” she said.

“The sheds provide a safe place to connect and feel included, while engaging in a range of projects and initiatives that give back to the community including woodworking, metal work, computer refurbishment and general handywork.

“The size of the new facility and the energy of Northern Suburbs Men’s Shed will hopefully enable groups across the wider community to learn and develop new skills at the shed.”

Northern Suburbs Men's Shed Chairman Colin Ord said the group were excited to settles into their new home.

“We’re looking forward to see the new facility come to life and this move is a great opportunity to grow our membership,” he said.

The City also entered into a lease agreement with the Wildflower Society of Western Australia to operate its Northern Suburbs Branch close to the new Men’s Shed area at the Kingsway site.
