The contract for the works has been awarded to local business Jarvis Delahey Contractors, with construction to begin early September.
The intersection will be closed for approximately nine weeks, weather permitting, to allow for construction of the roundabout. Due to the full closure of this busy intersection, the community is encouraged to begin planning alternate travel routes during the nine week construction timeframe. Signed detours will be in place to direct motorists, with Channel Road available throughout the construction period.
Council’s Director Infrastructure, Gary Randhawa, said the roundabout upgrade was a high priority for Council, with the current crossroad intersection seeing between 140 and 180 vehicles through it per day.
“The construction of the roundabout will significantly increase traffic safety at this important intersection with the intention of reducing speed, risk, traffic accidents and most importantly, fatalities,” he said.
“Full closure and detours while the construction is undertaken will reduce the safety risk to passenger and commercial vehicles, along with the construction staff. The construction period aims to utilise the spring school holidays to reduce any disruption to traffic as much as possible.
“We would like to thank the community for their support as we deliver this significant project, providing a safer intersection for residents and visitors to Greater Shepparton.”
