Mayor Beresford’s July 2024 Council Meeting Wrap-up

The July Council meeting was held at the Civic & Community Enterprise Centre in Cunnamulla on Tuesday 16th July, 2024.

Correspondence

Funding under Arts Qld Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) has been announced and Paroo Shire Council has been allocated $85,000 for the period 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2026, payable in yearly instalments of $42,500. This will enable the RADF Committee to decide on the date to open and receive the first round of applications for RADF grants for 2024/2025. An Expression of Interest will be lodged with the Queensland Small Business Commissioner to participate in the Regional Place Activation Program designed to revitalise towns across regional and remote Queensland. The Cunnamulla Amateur Swimming Club will commence its swimming season on 3rd October with a “come and try” night from 6pm followed by regular weekly club nights throughout the summer season.

Community Grant Applications Approved

Cunnamulla Amateur Swimming Club – waiver fee for hire of the swimming pool for club night Noorama Picnic Race Club – grant of $2,000 towards the 2024 Noorama Ball Paroo Pony Club – grant of $500 and waive hire fees for cold room, generator, portaloos and BBQ trailer for Pony Club Camp from 15 to 18 September 2024.

Community Consultation Action Outcomes

The action outcomes from recent Community Consultation Meetings held at Wyandra, Eulo, Yowah, Noorama and Cunnamulla were tabled for updating. The updated action lists will be included in subsequent Council meeting agendas and posted on Council’s website.

Operational Plan 2024 – 2025

Council’s Operational Plan for the current financial year was considered and adopted. The Plan is based on Council’s Corporate Plan 2023 - 2028 and aligns with the 2024 – 2025 budget. The selected initiatives within the plan provide a guide for staff in determining their performance milestones and forms the basis of their monthly reports to Council.

Roadworks

Construction work to bitumen seal on an 8km section of the Jobs Gate Road and resealing a section of 12kms on the Eulo-Toompine Road have been completed under the TIDS program which is 50% funded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Council has also completed medium and heavy formation grading on the Jobs Gate Road, Pitherty Road, Waverley-Mintaka Road, Tinnenburra Road and Bundaleer Road under Roads to Recovery funding.
