Enhancements to the municipality’s roads remain a top priority for Ararat Rural Council as another major road infrastructure project gets underway.

Council will begin work on Mulcahy Road in Ararat this week, as part of the Urban Gravel to Seal Program. This project will include improvement of existing swale drainage along Mulcahy Road from Crouch Street to Blackie Avenue. Following the completion of the swale drain works, the road will be resurfaced using Otta, an innovative road sealant developed in Norway.

Otta seal is a low-cost bituminous road sealant which requires far less maintenance than traditional road sealing methods. Resurfacing using this innovative method only takes a few hours and the road becomes usable almost right away once sealed. Otta also improves driver visibility and decreases health problems, as it produces a significantly reduced amount of fine dust particles.

Local access will be maintained during the project. Residents with any questions or concerns are advised to contact Customer Service on (03) 5355 0200.

This crucial project is part of the Urban to Gravel Roads initiative under Council’s Capital Works Program, which specifically targets the upgrade of urban gravel roads.
