Council has developed a preliminary Landscape Master Plan for the upgrading of Pioneer Park’s infrastructure and landscaping, in order to enhance its attractiveness and functionality for locals and visitors alike. Council will implement the master plan in stages across forthcoming years as funds can be allocated in Council’s annual budgets, and/or external grants can be secured.
Generally, the plan protects the heritage values of the park, particularly the Pioneer Cemetery and Memorial Rose Garden, whilst reorganising and expanding public amenities. This includes the development of a contemporary children’s playground, upgrading of the existing toilet facility and the development of a new, centrally located inclusive toilet facility, upgrading the picnic and BBQ facilities, improving and expanding the park’s pathways, and the planting of additional gardens and trees to add colour and shade. Most importantly, the plan retains the existing open spaces to accommodate large scale community events.
The plan is on display at the Evandale Visitor Centre, the Council Offices in Longford, and on Council’s website from 1 August 2024.
Feedback received by Friday 30 August 2024 will be taken into consideration by Council when finalising the master plan. Feedback can be emailed to Council at [email protected], mailed to Council (P.O. Box 156, Longford TAS 7301), and/or left with staff at the Visitor Centre or Council Offices.
