On 1 August 2024 the Old Menangle School site was officially opened by Mayor Matt Gould, Deputy Mayor Matthew Deeth, Cr Hilton Gibbs, Cr Suzy Brandstater, Cr Michael Banasik, and Cr Blair Briggs. CEO Ben Taylor and Council staff were also in attendance.
The community was invited along to try out the new playground facilities and have a look at the amazing rejuvenated Old Menangle School building.
The multi-use space will become a destination park for families to visit, stay and play for the day. It is located very near to the train station in Menangle so easy to access.
The site includes a playground and nature play areas, a community outdoor kitchen, BBQ and shelter facilities, amenities and of course, the must see upgraded old school building.
Mayor Matt Gould said “I’m thrilled to open this magnificent space and to see it ready for the community to enjoy. I know it will be popular with locals and visitors alike. I was delighted to see so many people come along to help us launch this fantastic facility.”
“Funding for the project has been provided by Public Space Legacy Program, NSW Government, Mirvac VPA, Camden AGL Community Legacy Program and Council’s Building Renewal Funds and Contributions and we are grateful for their generous contribution”, he said.
Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said it’s wonderful to see Menangle’s history being preserved.
“The community has taken such a creative approach to preserving the old school site, which I understand originally opened its doors back in 1871,” Minister Moriarty said.
“By preserving the building and upgrading the facilities locals will be able to celebrate their rich heritage while enjoying modern comfort and convenience.”
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the NSW Government contributed $1.35 million in funding towards the project.
“The Old Menangle School site has been revitalised as a multi-use space for community use with a new inclusive playspace for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy,” Mr Scully said.
“This is another great example of the NSW Government delivering high quality, vibrant open spaces with a lasting community benefit.”
