Former Saleyards Manager Timothy Maguire has taken out the Australian Livestock Markets Association and the Australian Livestock Saleyards Association 2024 Saleyards Industry Champion Award.

This award honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the saleyard sector of the red meat industry in Australia, highlighting exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication.

Mr Maguire began his tenure with the Central Highlands Regional Council in July 2017, managing the Emerald Saleyards with over 40 years of experience in the cattle industry. His leadership has driven growth and development at the saleyards, focusing on animal welfare, team safety, and operational excellence.

‘Tim’s commitment extends to fostering a safe and inclusive work environment, mentoring his team, and implementing strategic initiatives that have bolstered the local economy,’ Central Highlands Regional Council Councillor Robert Donaldson said.

‘His efforts in securing funding and developing new income streams have enhanced operational efficiency and regional economic impact.’

During Mr Maguire’s time in the role, he has overseen the successful completion of 45 capital works projects totalling over $6.1 M. These have included significant infrastructure upgrades, expansion to a full weighbridge deck, overhead catwalks, LED lighting upgrade, concreting of delivery lanes and the installation of additional selling pens.

‘This is a momentous achievement in Tim’s career and highlights the success of council’s Emerald Saleyards facility at a national level, and we are incredibly proud of this achievement,’ Councillor Donaldson said.

‘Tim retired last month, and I couldn’t think of a better note to end on. We wish him all the very best.’
