The City of Albany is proud to host Dying to Know Day 2024, an annual campaign dedicated to empowering Australians to become proactive advocates for their personal end-of-life planning.

This August, the City invites residents at all stages of life to participate in various events, gatherings, and workshops designed to improve their knowledge about end-of-life choices and planning.

Dying to Know Day encourages individuals to take meaningful action, whether by holding events at home or attending any of the diverse range of organised workshops and activities.

On 6 August, the Swedish Death Cleaning Workshop teaches the practical Swedish practice of decluttering your life so that no one else must do it for you when you die or downsize.

The Preparing Your Digital Legacy Plan workshop on 8 August at Albany Public Library helps ensure your digital presence concludes with your life, preventing ongoing distress for your loved ones.

Embrace the serious and the jovial as participants gather for an evening of meaningful conversations and light-hearted after-dinner games at Death over Dinner on 8 August at Motel Le Grande.

Hosted by Albany Public Library on 9 August, Advance Care Planning Workshops provide guidance on maintaining control over your healthcare and lifestyle by making your wishes known in advance. A second workshop will take place at Wellstead Community Resource Centre on 28 August.

Albany Community Hospice is helping residents develop an emotional will that reflects their legacy, including family recipes, books, and photos at the Emotional Will Writing Workshop on 28 August.

Manager Community Relations Elise van Gorp emphasised the importance of these events.

“Dying to Know Day offers a unique opportunity for our community to come together and discuss a topic that is often avoided but incredibly important,” she said.

“By participating in these workshops, individuals can ensure that their wishes are known and respected, and they can reduce the burden on their loved ones.

“The City is proud to support this initiative and provide resources that empower people to take control of their end-of-life planning.”
