Addressing public bin concerns
Alpine Shire 6 Aug 2024

Council's contractors, SSX Group, maintain a thorough schedule, ensuring that all of our bins are emptied regularly across the Shire.

At present, Council bins are emptied over 800 times per week, with waste and recycling bins in the main streets of Bright, Mount Beauty, Myrtleford and Tawonga South emptied daily.

During peak times, like the summer and Easter school holidays, this number increases by an additional 386 services a week to accommodate the higher demand.

Over the past few weeks, we've also been made aware of overflowing bins located at the entrance of the Woolworths supermarket in Bright. These bins are not the responsibility of Council and all enquiries should be directed to Woolworths.

Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr John Forsyth, encouraged everyone to dispose of waste responsibly.

"If you find a bin that's full, please take your rubbish to the next available bin. Dog waste bins are also strictly for dog waste and should not be used for food waste, including coffee cups," he said.

"I'd also like to remind everyone that public bins are not to be used for disposing of domestic waste.

"We're seeing too many instances of full garbage bags of rubbish disposed of in our public bins, which is significantly adding to the problem of bins filling up quickly and, in some instances, overflowing.

"Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a beautiful and clean community."

If you do come across a Council-managed bin that is full or overflowing, please scan the QR code on the side of the bin and report it directly to SSX Group, and a member of their team will get to it as soon as possible.
