Now is the perfect time to honour their contributions and achievements by nominating them for the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards.
For more than 30 years, these awards have celebrated the remarkable efforts of older Victorians who generously share their skills, experiences, time, and energy with our communities.
Nominations are open to residents of Victoria aged 60 years or over, and First Nations people aged 50 years or over.
This year's awards feature six categories, each highlighting different aspects of community involvement:
Premier’s Award for Victorian Senior of the Year for an outstanding contribution by an individual to their local community and Victoria. Promotion of Multiculturalism Award to an individual for a significant contribution to promoting the benefits of cultural diversity in their local community or in the broader community. Healthy and Active Living Award to an individual for helping to create active and healthy communities through community involvement and as a role model. Veteran Community Award to an individual for an exceptional contribution to the veteran community. The recipient of the award does not need to be a veteran. Ageing Well Award to an individual who has worked to combat ageism, promote social justice and engaged with their community to support ageing well initiatives. COTA (Council on the Ageing) Victoria Senior Achiever Awards for significant contributions to local communities and Victoria.Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr John Forsyth, said senior citizens continuously contribute to our communities in numerous ways.
“If it weren't for our seniors, we wouldn't have many of the volunteer services we all benefit from today, with 78.9 per cent of volunteers across Victoria aged 65 and over," Cr Forsyth said.
"This is our opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate their invaluable contributions and I urge everyone to take a moment to nominate an exceptional senior in their life so we can shine a spotlight on their dedication and hard work."
In a move to make the nomination process more accessible, submissions can now be made digitally through a new, user-friendly platform. This change ensures that recognising a deserving Victorian is easier than ever before.
