Albany Public Library has been honoured with the State Library Board Award for Innovation and Collaboration at the 2024 Library Board Awards for their After-Hours Student Study Space Project.
The innovative project was initiated in response to growing demand for central meeting places with stable internet access for student use, addressing a critical need for students in the regional centre.
Albany Public Library’s After-Hours Student Study Space offers a safe, secure, and accessible environment for students to study outside of regular library hours.
The initiative was launched in May 2023 and has experienced overwhelming popularity, aided by its close proximity to student accommodation and position in the heart of the city.
The After-Hours Student Study Space builds on the safe, inclusive and welcoming reputation of the Albany Public Library which is a popular venue for local families, students, seniors and children.
Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks praised the staff at the Library.
“This award is a testament to the forward-thinking and community-focused approach of Albany Public Library,” he said.
“The After-Hours Student Study Space project is a shining example of how collaboration and innovation can address critical community needs and assist our youth to thrive.
“We are incredibly proud of our library team and the positive impact this project has on our students and the wider community."
By providing a secure and reliable study environment, Albany Public Library is supporting the academic endeavours of local students and reinforcing the library's role as a central and essential community hub.
