Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has launched a refreshed sponsorship program this week to support community initiatives and events.
Part of the changes is a new dedicated sponsorship budget for the 2024/25 financial year of $100,000, which has been formed by reallocating funds from the existing Community Grants Program.
TRC Community Development, Facilities and Tourism portfolio spokesperson Cr James O’Shea said the changes were implemented to provide a single, coordinated and transparent approach to seeking, acquiring and managing sponsorships and partnerships.
“It is a new term, so we have the opportunity to do things differently,” Cr O’Shea said. “This follows changes to our engagement policy and changes to our financial reporting which was introduced last month.”
“It is another targeted improvement to make it easier to apply for sponsorship.”
Cr O’Shea said requests for sponsorships require applicants to first register for a SmartyGrants account. Sign up is free and access to the SmartyGrants portal is via Council's website, which lists all available funding opportunities.
“Council’s website promotes a number of funding programs available at different times of the year and the portal is a central location for local groups to visit and search for funding for their next project or initiative,” he said.
“It is a one-stop shop that makes it easier for residents to apply for sponsorships and provides residents with a better online experience when completing an application.
“Also, as sponsorship is a business transaction Council sponsorship needs to provide negotiated commercial, promotional and/or other benefits in return.
“Council sponsorships should result in tangible and mutual compensation for all parties. If applicants need help Council staff are available to assist new subscribers understand the process and get started.”
