PROPOSED POULTRY FARM – 100 (LOT 20) JAMES EASTOUGH CLOSE, NANSON
The Shire of Chapman Valley has received an application for a poultry farm upon the 40ha property of 100 (Lot 20) James Eastough Close, Nanson.
The application proposes that up to 1,000 chickens would free-range upon the property in moveable pens containing chicken caravans for laying of eggs and to house chickens at night.
The establishment of a poultry farm meets the definition of ‘animal husbandry-intensive’ which is defined under the Planning & Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 as “means premises used for keeping, rearing or fattening of pigs, poultry (for either egg or meat production), rabbits (for either meat or fur production) or other livestock in feedlots, sheds or rotational pens.”
100 (Lot 20) James Eastough Close, Nanson is zoned ‘Rural Smallholdings’ and ‘Animal Husbandry-Intensive’ is listed as an ‘A’ use in this zone, that is a use that must be advertised for comment.
The Shire is therefore inviting comment upon this application prior to this matter being presented to Council for its determination.
