Use your FOGO correctly to avoid the Landfill Levy
Central Coast Council 13 Aug 2024

The Tasmanian Landfill Levy (state tax) has increased from $21.36 per tonne to $44.88 per tonne in 2024-25. This cost is set by the Tasmanian Government and is not a source of revenue for the Council.

The increase in Landfill Levy will also impact the fees and charges at the Resource Recovery Centre. This is only for disposing of landfill waste and does not apply to recoverable materials such as green waste, metal recycling and clean soil.

Therefore, your FOGO bin contents are exempt from any state tax, meaning we all get to save money, and our service costs will be used for things we need in the community!

What goes inside your FOGO bin?

Why goes in FOGO

Vegetable peelings, fruit, cooked food, leftovers, meat and bones, seafood waste, dairy and citrus, lawn clippings, weeds, veggie patch waste and small branches are all appropriate for your FOGO bin.

What does not go in FOGO

DO NOT put any plastics, biodegradable plastics, plastic bags, cling wrap, glass, tins and cans, foil, Tetrapaks, nappies, treated timber, gravel, rocks or building material into your FOGO bin.

There have been some recent adjustments in how we sort our FOGO waste and some items are no longer accepted in your FOGO bin.
