Council has agreed to a 30-year lease for land on Greenslopes Street in Edge Hill to support a new cultural centre celebrating the region’s Chinese heritage.

In planning since 2016, the centre will host one of the nation’s hidden treasures, the Cairns Lit Sung Goong Temple collection, a nationally significant collection of more than 240 artefacts from the temple that operated in Cairns between 1886 and 1966.
It will also be home to for a range of cultural activities including the Chinese lion, dragon and Molihua performing arts, drumming and language lessons.
