WinterGlow to warm up a chilly winter's night
AlburyCity News 15 Aug 2024

Proudly funded by the NSW Government under its Open Streets program, this enchanting inaugural event promises to be a spectacular celebration of winter, filled with engaging workshops, mesmerising musical performances, delicious street food and captivating displays of light and colour.

And just to add to the wintry magic, snow!

Headlining the WinterGlow Festival is Australian World Music star Mitch Tambo, a proud Gamilaraay man who blends his deep-rooted culture into contemporary musical hits.

Visitors to the festival can also indulge their creativity with hands-on craft workshops or partake in something more high-energy activities such as hula hooping, ribbon twirling or plate-spinning, courtesy of Cirkus Bizurkis.

To add to the excitement, there will also be roving entertainment, fire artists, magic, design activities and jewellery making, as well as an array of street-food vendors to tempt the tastebuds.

The Open Streets Program is led by Transport for NSW and aims to energise our streets with free activities and events. AlburyCity was successful in receiving $149,703.00 from the program for WinterGlow.

Minister for Roads, Arts, Music and the Night-Time Economy, Jobs and Tourism John Graham said:

“We’re excited to support this event in Albury.

“Too often our main streets are something we drive through, rather than drive to. Our streets are a critical part of our public and social infrastructure. Great streets make great towns and centres and reflect the local community and culture.

“The Open Streets program is about temporarily transforming our main streets into vibrant and welcoming public event spaces.

“The colour and diversity of these 130 events celebrates the unique personality of each town or suburb. This is what our vibrancy agenda is all about, backing locals to create events and entertainment that works for their local community.”

Albury Mayor, Kylie King, said WinterGlow promised to be an unforgettable experience for the whole community.

“What a way to warm up our winter in Albury, with a celebration of the season through crating, dining and entertainment,” she said.

WinterGlow is a free event beginning at 6.00 pm on Saturday 17 August in QEII Square
