Hazard Mitigation Burns, 21 and 22 August 2024

Mareeba Shire Council wishes to advise that hazard mitigation burns for the protection of residential/commercial and rural assets is planned over two days from Wednesday, 21 August 2024 to Thursday, 22 August 2024, weather depending.

This is a joint operation being conducted by Mareeba Shire Council, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and Rural Fire Service crews.

Location of the controlled burns:

1.Ray Road and Zenel Road, Mareeba: Wednesday, 21 August 2024 (please refer to the map included)

2.Rail Corridor from Vicary Road to Gallo’s Drive: Thursday, 22 August 2024 (please refer to the map included)

Alternate Traffic Conditions:

Please be advised there may be altered traffic conditions as there will be fire vehicles and fire fighters in these locations during the operation.

PLEASE NOTE:

Avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area. Stay indoors, close windows and doors. Keep respiratory medication close by. Reduced air quality may cause health impacts for some people. Smoke may reduce visibility and affect driving conditions.

Purpose of the Burns:

Bushfire Mitigation: Reducing the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impact on communities and infrastructure. Ecological Health: Promoting biodiversity and the conservation of species and habitats.
