The power of art to lift the spirit and take viewers beyond the mundane will be on display in a painting exhibition featuring works by Judy Currie and Claire Howden at Crows Nest Gallery from August 21 to September 15, 2024.
Titled, Connection Through Colour, the exhibition celebrates art, colour and creativity and the power of art to transcend the conventional, the routine and the everyday.
Through their art, Judy and Claire have discovered parts of themselves that had been hidden – boldness, fun, connection with others, positivity, focus, and especially, the value of ‘giving it a go’.
Claire uses bold colour in her expressive paintings and Judy’s works, while seemingly ‘traditional’, always contain an unexpected splash or use of colour.
“It is the contrast of colour that inspires me. The vibrancy of earth and sky in the country transfixes me,” Claire said.
“Seeing beauty in what surrounds us is important to me, so beauty is what is depicted; there may be harshness in the landscape, but beauty lies in the colour, textures, contrasts,” Judy explains.
From out of the ‘ordinary’ into an improved state of wellbeing, their artworks provide an avenue for enjoyment, playfulness, peace, and contemplation.
The exhibition encourages the viewer to appreciate the use of colour in their work.
The exhibition’s Meet the Artists event is from 11am to 1pm on Sunday, August 25.
