We're looking for a standout artwork to represent the Town of Bassendean in the WA Local Government Association’s Showcase in Pixels competition.  Judging Criteria for Submissions WALGA will judge submissions on:

Alignment to the core theme: ‘Heroes Among Us’. Clarity of Representation: Is it easy to identify which Council is being represented? For example, does the artwork incorporate the Council’s name, depict local wildflowers, farming scenes, coffee strips, or other unique elements associated with the Council? Composition Use of colour and creativity Artistic merit Individuality, boldness and humour.

Eligibility Requirements Please note the following guidelines for your artwork to be eligible:

No photographs or images of road networks or traffic. Content cannot include colours or shapes that could be mistaken for traffic signals, signs or instruction signs. The composition should not be chiefly made up of dark images as they will not be visible on the tower screen during the day. No commercial advertising or brands to be displayed.

Artwork Specifications and Submission Instructions Submissions can be made through our online form, closing on 13 September 2024.

You will need to upload one clear, high-resolution image of the artwork (300 DPI). If you are submitting a photograph, we recommend that you take it from a distance so that it can be fully captured and not skewed.

The artwork should be the following ratio of height to width:

Traditional artwork formats 1.38 (height) : 1 (width)

Digitally-created artwork 896 pixels (height) by 650 pixels (width), 300DPI resolution, JPEG or PNG.

Artists must also include a brief explanation of their submission (250 words maximum), with details on how it was created, which mediums were used, the inspiration behind each element, and how it relates to the theme ‘Heroes Among Us’.

Please do not send physical artworks to the Town of Bassendean.

Celebrating in the Town of Bassendean After the competition, the Town of Bassendean hopes to showcase all eligible artworks electronically in various public spaces throughout our community. A panel will review each submission, and a local winner will be chosen independently of the Showcase in Pixels competition. This artist will be honoured at an upcoming civic event and win a $250 Australia Post Gift Card by Mastercard®.
