Brisbane Jazz Club, 1 Annie St, Kangaroo Point Sunday, October 13, 2024, 2:30 – 6pm Brisbane Vocal Jazz Festival presents Kings and Queens of Jazz! There have been many great jazz musicians, but those considered exceptionally talented have often been informally granted honorific "aristocratic" or "royal" titles as nicknames by audiences and peers. These are the artists that made every song unique and their own, regardless of whether or not they penned the songs.Back by popular demand, with a hot piano trio, following on from our sell-out previous Kings and Queens of Jazz concerts, this year we pay humble homage to some more of these greats with the help of a number of incredibly talented Queensland artists.Expect to hear songs and stories about the master of Vocalese, Jon Hendricks with Toni Allayialis-Bann; entertainment legend, singer, dancer, actor, comedian and original Rat Pack member – Sammy Davis Jr with Jake Meywes. Aron Gartrell will interpret Al Jarreau – a unique, acrobatic and versatile global sensation as crooner and inventive scatter; while the legendary singer, pianist, composer, bandleader, known as “the Genius” – Ray Charles will be presented by Steve Taylor-Brown.  Enjoy Irene Bartlett’s tasty interpretations of pianist and singer Carmen McRae - the distinctive jazz stylist from New York known for her incredible phrasing and revisit one of the most popular musical acts from the swing and boogie-woogie eras – The Andrew Sisters performed by local vocal group ‘3 to the Bar’ featuring Jessica O’Bryan, Naomi Doessel and Tari Wickremeratne.BVJF is proudly supported by the Creative Sparks Grant Program – an initiative of the Brisbane City Council in partnership with the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
