Council will conduct a controlled risk mitigation burn on Mt Whitfield tomorrow (Tuesday 20 August) from 6.30am to 2pm.
As a result, the Mt Whitfield Arrow tracks (Green, Blue and Yellow), will be closed most of the day.
Aeroglen bike path users are encouraged to use the cycling path network on Aeroglen Drive and the Captain Cook Highway to avoid possible smoke.
Council expects the tracks to reopen late in the afternoon.
This controlled burn is subject to favourable weather conditions and is part of Council’s fire prevention and hazard reduction program for the natural areas surrounding Cairns.
Members of the public are asked to be aware of potential smoke hazards during the controlled burns.
If delayed by weather, the burn will be rescheduled to Thursday 22 August with the same track closures in effect.
