Benalla Rural City Council is helping to make school safer for everyone with the introduction of Kiss and Go zones at Benalla schools.
The Kiss and Go program helps improve the road safety of children and traffic congestion around local schools.
Mayor, Cr Danny Claridge, welcomed the initiative that aims to keep school children safe.
“Kiss and Go is all about keeping our school kids safe, and this is another fantastic result of council and school communities working together to improve road safety in school zones”, Cr Claridge said.
New signage has been installed in school zones to provide parents with a clear and safe place to drop children off each morning.
“Installing the Kiss and Go zones will improve safety for our school community at the busiest times of the day and enable parents to drop off and pick up their children in a convenient, safe and ordered manner," Cr Claridge said.
“Marked clearly with red and white signage, the Kiss and Go zones will allow parents to pull up for a 2-minute period and help their children into or out of the car.”
Cr Claridge said the Kiss and Go zone was a short-term stopping area for children to be able to walk between the car and the school using the safety of the footpath.
“Kiss and Go is another fantastic result of council and school communities working together to improve road safety in school zones,” Cr Claridge said.
Kiss and Go zones allow drivers to pull up and get out of the car to help with school bags and deliver a kiss goodbye but must remain within three metres of the car.
