Dederang will host the iconic $750,000, 18-carat gold trophy at the Recreation Reserve between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
This family-friendly event will include a free BBQ, opportunities to take photos with the Cup, and a celebration of Dederang’s rich racing history. Attendees can also enjoy Clydesdale and carriage rides, adding to the festive atmosphere.
In the evening, the Cup will make its way to Myrtleford for a special event at the Savoy Club.
For just $20 per person, community members are invited to learn about the Melbourne Cup’s history and legacy from special guest speaker, Former Chief Steward Des Gleeson.
The evening will feature a grazing table of delicious local cheeses and treats, with all proceeds being donated to Rural Aid, a charity dedicated to supporting farming and rural communities.
Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr John Forsyth, encouraged the community to participate in this unique opportunity for the Shire.
“The Lexus Melbourne Cup is more than just a race; it’s a symbol of Australia’s rich sporting culture and history," he said.
"We’re thrilled to host the Cup in Dederang and Myrtleford, and we hope these events will bring our community together to celebrate not only the Cup, but also the resilience and strength of our local farmers.”
Cr Forsyth also highlighted the significance of the Myrtleford event raising essential funds for Rural Aid.
“Rural Aid does vital work in supporting our farmers, and by attending this event, our community can contribute directly to their efforts," he said.
"It’s a chance to enjoy a fantastic evening while making a real difference.”
The Cup’s visit to the Alpine Shire is part of its national tour, giving communities across Australia the chance to connect with this legendary piece of sporting history.
