The next generation of big thinkers and their big ideas are returning to Parramatta with a special TEDxSydney Youth event back this month at Riverside Theatres.
Future leaders, change-makers and visionaries of today will take to the stage and speak about their vision on the future of technology, innovation, education, business and transport including nine key speakers such as disability rights activist and Heartbreak High actress Chloe Hayden, Synbiote CEO and influential young Australian Alinta Furnell and amputee, model and champion for visibility James Parr.
City of Parramatta chief executive Gail Connolly PSM said it’s a unique chance for young people, including those in Western Sydney to be heard.
“We are an emerging global City with a big vision for a big future and TEDxSydney Youth is an opportunity for our younger generation to get inspired and tell us what they think could be a game changer,” Ms Connolly said.
“Our latest big idea – the revolutionary Parramatta 2050 vision document - is now live and is an example of what can be achieved when thinking outside the square. I encourage everyone to have a look at it for inspiration so they can build on this for a better future right here in Parramatta.”
Five winners of a competition held by City of Parramatta in partnership with TEDxSydney Youth will also deliver their pitches at the event on how the future will look once the next generation of leaders take over.
2023 City of Parramatta TEDxSydney Youth competition winner Aidan Jin, 10, said it’s an experience he will never forget.
“I was both nervous and excited to go on stage and talk about establishing Parramatta as the world's first environmentally sustainable city,” Aidan said.
“I’m worried about the future of the planet and the effects of climate change and want to make a difference and being a TEDxSydney Youth speaker was a lot of fun.”
TEDxSydney Youth will be held at Riverside Theatres from 9:15am – 2pm Thursday 29 August.
