Police officers, teachers, firefighters, medical professionals, allied healthcare workers and childcare workers are set to receive an extra special Moree Plains welcome thanks to successful NSW Government funding over the next two years.
The ‘Welcome Experience’, delivered by Moree Plains Shire Council, will be a free concierge-style service to support essential workers and their families to feel more at home in their new community through personalised support, local information and connections.
Mayor Mark Johnson highlighted the importance of the program in supporting a stronger and more connected regional community.
“Helping our essential workers find their feet more easily when they move here and keeping these community builders in our region for longer where possible, supports the social fabric of our towns and longer-term population growth.”
“Moree Plains Shire Council is eager to welcome hundreds of new workers and their families to our community and delighted to have the support from the NSW Government for this important program - it’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the amazing community we have.” Cr Johnson said.
Government and non-government workers in the following industries are eligible for The Welcome Experience:
Health Aged Care Education Early Childhood Disability Support Child Protection and Out-of-home care Corrections and Justice Emergency services.The service will also support partners of essential workers to find employment and settle into the community.
The Welcome Experience is part of the NSW Government’s Essential Worker Attraction Program, which aims to boost essential workforces in regional NSW.
Employer and community workshops will take place in Moree and Mungindi during October to shape what the program will look like for the Moree Plains.
