IndigiScapes Eco Markets to celebrate all things naturally wonderful

Redlands Coast’s popular Eco Markets at IndigiScapes are set to return in spring with a range of free activities, live entertainment and eco-friendly stalls for the community to enjoy.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said the markets, to be held on Saturday 7 September, were a great opportunity to support local small businesses, learn more about the natural environment, and spend time relaxing in nature with family and friends.

“This is a celebration of all things naturally wonderful and eco-friendly on Redlands Coast,” the Mayor said.

“The markets will feature all the usual community favourites such as art and craft activities, live entertainment, pop-up food vans, and the popular Suitcase Rummage, where a range of pre-loved items will be up for sale.

“The highlights for families include facepainting, wild weaving in the Botanic Gardens, a presentation on bees, and a performance by Brisbane-based songwriters the Little Wattlebird Band on the outdoor stage.”

Stallholder spaces at the market are now at capacity, with more than 40 artisans, environmental groups, community organisations and other vendors set to participate, including Council’s Environment Education team.

“There will be a range of items to browse at the market stalls including hand-made gifts, fresh produce, upcycled clothing, sustainable toys, and a variety of native plants,” the Mayor said.

“Visitors will also be able to explore the IndigiScapes Native Nursery, visit the gift shop and Discovery Centre, take a stroll through the Botanic Gardens, or grab a coffee and a bite to eat at the fabulous IndigiCafe.

“And to mark National Threatened Species Day, a conservation-themed exhibit has been organised where the community will be able to see some of our much-loved wildlife up close.

“This special exhibit has been made possible through a collaboration between Council’s Koala Conservation and Wildlife teams, Griffith University and D’Aguilar Wildlife.”

Division 7 Councillor Rowanne McKenzie said there was no better way to spend the weekend than in the beautiful surrounds of IndigiScapes.

“The Eco Markets are a highlight of the Redlands Coast events calendar, and most importantly they’re free to attend,” Cr McKenzie said.

“There is something for everyone, so make sure you get the family together for a wonderful day out in nature to celebrate the start of spring.”

The Eco Markets will be held from 8am to midday on Saturday 7 September at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, 17 Runnymede Road, Capalaba.
