Council's Public Street Lighting policy, procedure adopted

Two new documents will guide the design, installation, and management of public street lighting within the Gannawarra Shire.
Council adopted its Public Street Lighting policy and procedure at its August 2024 Meeting, with residents able to provide feedback on draft versions of both documents during an engagement period that occurred during May-June 2024.
“The Public Street Lighting policy and procedure will address ambiguities in the decision-making process in relation to new lighting design and installation,” Mayor Ross Stanton said.
“Council does not own most street lighting infrastructure and, in accordance with negotiated agreements, pays for electricity, installation, maintenance, and replacement of items as part of its ongoing responsibility of providing infrastructure and amenities to the community.”
The Public Street Lighting policy and procedure addresses matters relating to:
Lighting asset ownership, classification, and the entities responsible for management; Lighting installations for the new and existing streets and public spaces; Determining the need for lighting; and The requests/complaints resolution procedures for frequently reoccurring concern types.To view the Public Street Lighting policy and procedure, please click on the Policies heading at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/documents
