In a major step towards a connected and sustainable future, Council is proud to announce the installation of a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station, delivered in partnership with the NRMA and the Australian Government’s Driving the Nation fund.
Fully grid-connected and equipped with two ABB Terra 184s chargers, this station will connect the community with cleaner, more cost-efficient transport options, addressing key blackspots in the country’s EV charging network.
The Driving the Nation fund supports the installation of fast chargers every 150 km on average along national highways, and this new station in Ararat is an essential part of that strategy. As part of the National EV Backbone, the station is helping Victoria close critical gaps in Australia's EV infrastructure, enabling seamless and reliable travel across the country.
This station represents a key milestone in Australia’s shift towards a connected, sustainable transport network. By linking communities, it will play a vital role in promoting sustainable travel across the region.
By making EV travel more accessible and efficient, the station helps to bring communities together, enhancing the social and economic vitality of Victoria. The installation of reliable, fast-charging infrastructure makes sustainable travel convenient for all.
With the ability to charge EVs significantly in around 30 minutes, this station allows drivers to return to the road quickly, staying connected to the people and places that matter most.
“The installation of the new EV station is a leap towards sustainable transportation in our community,” says Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison. “It will also attracts visitors and support local businesses, contributing to our region's economic growth and environmental well-being."
