Nominations are now open for the 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Awards which recognise the invaluable contributions of people who contribute to community life.
The awards, run by Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, celebrate local people who have made significant contributions to the community during the past year and those who have provided outstanding service over many years.
Nominations are open in four categories:
Community Citizen of the YearYoung Community Citizen of the Year (16 – 30 years)Senior Community Citizen of the Year (over 65 years)Active Citizenship – Group or EventThe winners of the 2024 Awards include Karen Hollings, Community Citizen of the Year for founding the not-for-profit organization Dogs for First Responders, which supports the mental health of first responders using therapy dogs.
Angel Jose, recognised as Young Community Citizen of the Year, founded Kids Helping Kids, a group that supports children with special needs by providing a safe place for them to learn and grow.
Doreen Nelson was honoured as Senior Community Citizen of the Year for her lifelong advocacy for Aboriginal rights, empowerment, and social justice at a national level.
The CWA Rockingham, awarded Active Citizen of the Year, is a long-standing and vibrant local organisation committed to community engagement.
The City of Rockingham invites nominations in all categories to recognise community minded citizens from all walks of life and across all age groups.
Nominations can be submitted online through the City’s website until the closing date on 31 October 2024.
The awards will be presented in January during the City’s Community Citizen of the Year Ceremony.
