Annual Alpine Shire Youth Awards spotlight the successes of young people

The quality of nominations was at an all-time high with nominees demonstrating outstanding achievements, making it challenging for the judging panel and resulting in two new awards – the Local Youth Award (17 – 21 years) and the Young Visionary Award (17 – 21 years).

This year's ceremony was held at EMPAC in Myrtleford with the Youth Awards Committee, comprised of five local young people who planned and delivered the event for an audience of 150 people.  

Featuring guest speakers Zoe Kromar and Ya Reeves, the ceremony also included a musical act by Mieke Bosland, a dance number from Schuylar Reeve and desserts prepared by the Marian College Food Technology class.  

 Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr John Forsyth, said the calibre of nominations this year has been nothing short of inspiring.  

"What sets our Shire apart is the remarkable diversity of young people excelling in so many areas – whether in sports, the arts, academics, community service, or in the workplace," he said. 

"Your efforts and achievements are valued, and this community stands proudly behind you, recognising the impact you’re making." 

Cr Forsyth acknowledged the many people who contribute to the Alpine Shire Youth Awards, including the local businesses and community groups who sponsored the awards, the five young people who made up the Youth Awards Committee, and the hosts and performers on the evening.  

"We also owe a big thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate these outstanding young individuals.  

"Whether you’re a teacher, parent, employer, friend, or family member, your efforts in recognising these young stars do not go unnoticed." 

Alpine Shire Council extends its congratulations to the twelve award winners, as well as all thirty-two nominees across their respective categories.

The annual Alpine Shire Youth Awards is a dedicated celebration of young people across Alpine Shire communities, with young people nominated for awards spanning across twelve categories. 

The event is planned, developed and delivered by young people, offering opportunities to develop skills in event management and stakeholder engagement.
