Mareeba Shire Council wishes to advise that hazard mitigation burns for the protection of residential/commercial and rural assets is planned along Rail Corridor, Mareeba.

The burns will occur between 3 September 2024 – 20 September 2024, as soon as the weather permits. The burns will generally occur late afternoons or early evenings. This is a joint operation being conducted by Mareeba Shire Council, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and Rural Fire Service crews.

Alternate Traffic Conditions

Please be advised there may be altered traffic conditions as there will be fire vehicles and fire fighters in these locations during the operation.

PLEASE NOTE

Avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area. Stay indoors, close windows and doors. Keep respiratory medication close by. Reduced air quality may cause health impacts for some people. Smoke may reduce visibility and affect driving conditions.

Bushfire Mitigation: Reducing the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impact on communities and infrastructure.

Ecological Health: Promoting biodiversity and the conservation of species and habitats.
