Nominations open for 2025 Fremantle Citizen of the Year Awards

Do you know someone who's made an outstanding contribution to the community this year? Then nominate them for the 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.
Organised by the City of Fremantle, the Awards are a great opportunity to recognise individuals and groups who have made a positive contribution during the current year, or those who have given outstanding service over several years.
There are four categories:
Citizen of the Year Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years and over) Young Citizen of the Year (30 years and under) Active Citizenship Award (group or event)Their contribution or service can be in any area that enhances community wellbeing such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment or social inclusion.
To be eligible, nominees must live, work or volunteer in the Fremantle area.
Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said it's an opportunity to recognise people who consistently contribute to the wellbeing of others.
"It can be a friend, a neighbour or community leader. Someone who makes a difference to the quality of life of others.
"Recognising these special contributors will hopefully inspire more people to become active citizens in their community.
"Being socially connected is important for both mental and physical health," Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
The 2024 Fremantle Citizen of the Year Award was shared between Politics in the Pub and Fremantle Chess Club convenor, Dr Christian Mauri and Sarah Booth, a passionate advocate for the creative use of underused spaces in Fremantle.
Fremantle's Senior Citizen of the Year was photographer and resident blogger Roel Loopers, while the Young Citizen of the Year was awarded to Kate Raston for her work as the co-founder of We Are Womxn, an organisation empowering young women.
The Active Citizen of the Year (Group) went to Friends of Clontarf Hill for their conservation of the remnant tuart woodland for more than 25 years.
The 2025 Community Citizen of the Year nominations close on Thursday 31 October 2024.
