Voters will go to the polls in 128 different council areas across NSW.
In Albury, residents have the choice of 35 candidates across seven groups, plus one ungrouped candidate.
AlburyCity Council CEO, Frank Zaknich said it was essential that eligible residents and ratepayers turn out to vote to have their say on the future of Albury.
“Each vote helps to ensure that the community’s views, needs and priorities are represented by the elected Council, whose role is to support and makes decisions for the whole community,” he said.
“This Council will help shape the future of Albury from October 2024 until the next local government elections in 2028.
“They will address important issues for our community such as infrastructure and the environment, represent the interests of Albury’s diverse and growing population, promote financially and environmentally sustainable development, and shape our city’s strategic direction.”
Residents can cast their vote at a range of locations across Albury, including Albury High School, Albury North Public School, Thurgoona Public School and Lavington East Public School. The full range of polling stations can be accessed on the NSW Electoral Commission website.
Pre-polling is open from 7-13 September at the Albury Scout Hall with access from Mitchell Street, and the Masonic Centre in Gulpha St, North Albury. In addition, applications for postal voting are open until 9 September for those who may be away from Albury on election day.
Mr Zaknich stressed the importance of voting in the democratic process.
“Voting is compulsory in Australia and enables you to choose who represents you not only at a local government level, but also in federal and state governments,” he said.
