Central Highlands Regional Council is pleased to announce a $1.5 million grant to fund the construction of a new, state-of-the-art clubhouse at Bridgeman Park Showgrounds.
This significant project will see the development of a fit-for-purpose clubhouse that includes a modern canteen, updated amenities, gender-inclusive changerooms, and a new sewerage pump system.
These upgrades will ensure the facilities meet contemporary health and safety standards, as well as grassroots sporting facility requirements.
The existing clubhouse, which has served the community for over 40 years, is in a state of disrepair. The kitchen facilities are no longer usable, and the amenities and changerooms fall short of today’s standards for gender inclusivity and accessibility.
Mayor Moriarty expressed enthusiasm about the project, and highlighted its significance for the Central Highlands community.
“This project will do more than just upgrade a building – it will help bring our community together,” she continued.
“By supporting larger and more diverse events, we’re creating opportunities for increased participation, new revenue streams, and more visitors to Capella and the Central Highlands.”
Councillor Cruwys, who proudly calls Capella home, also acknowledged the significance of the new clubhouse to the community.
”This clubhouse isn’t just an infrastructure investment because we know the social benefit that is brought to our community through sports participation,” she continued.
“Sports has played a large part in Capella for decades, and what the new clubhouse will provide players by way of better facilities is as result of years of strong advocacy from our local clubs,”
“The Clubhouse project is a prime example of how a community can benefit when coal royalties make it back to the regions where they are unearthed.”
With the new clubhouse, the community will be able to host larger, more frequent, and diverse events. This project is expected to boost local engagement by increasing volunteer participation, generating new revenue streams, and attracting more visitors to the area.
The project is proudly funded by the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund.
