Great Southern showcases the Purity of Pastels

Albany Town Hall is set to showcase Purity of Pastels, an exhibition celebrating the vibrant art of soft pastels featuring works from a diverse group of artists from the Great Southern region.

The artists, drawn to the natural beauty of the Great Southern, have used various mediums over time but share a common passion for pastels which is evident through their creative artwork.

This exhibition highlights the immediacy, brilliance, and versatility of pastels, which are composed of pure pigment and a minimal binder, allowing for intense colour and precision.

Purity of Pastels incorporates a range of individual, well-executed works that reflect the artists' personal and artistic journeys which includes Australian Master pastel artist Robyn Receveur, award winners, accomplished artists, and newcomers to the medium.

The group of artists often gather to share skills and experiences, fostering a supportive and encouraging community whilst also participating in events such as the Southern Art and Craft Trail.

Manager Arts & Culture Paul Nielsen said the exhibition embraces our local talent.

“The use of pastels brings a unique vibrancy and depth to the artists’ work, capturing the essence of our region beautifully,” he said.

“This exhibition is a fabulous display of local talent and creative artwork inspired by our local environment here in our own backyard.

“Purity of Pastels not only showcases the talent within the Great Southern region but demonstrates the artists' efforts to overcome geographical isolation by uniting like-minded individuals”.

Purity of Pastels opens from 6 September until 5 October at the Albany Town Hall, with an artist talk to be held on 14 September from 11am, also at Albany Town Hall.
