The Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre (BIRC) Redevelopment project is moving forward with significant progress.
Following a comprehensive community engagement process, the Benalla Rural City Council has endorsed the Benalla P-12 College Barkly Street Campus as the preferred site for the new facility. This decision, made at the Council meeting on 24 April 2024, reflects the community's preference and the Council's commitment to creating an inclusive sporting hub for all ages.
The redevelopment, funded by a $15 million grant from the Victorian State Government, aims to address the limitations of the ageing BIRC, which is now 40 years old. The new facility will promote active and healthy lifestyles, meeting modern community expectations and sporting code compliance.
As we progress into the next stage of the BIRC Redevelopment, we are eager to invite our local sports and current BIRC user groups to provide input on this exciting project. Your insights will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our community's redeveloped stadium, ensuring it meets the needs and aspirations of our vibrant community.
