Timboon holds its own against classy competitors

Timboon might not have brought a trophy home from Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards but held its own against classy competitors.

Corangamite Shire Mayor Kate Makin and Acting CEO Justine Linley attended the presentation in Canberra on Monday when they spoke with counterparts from across the country about building successful tourism destinations.

Ms Linley congratulated gold award winner, Huskisson NSW, silver winner Stanley, Tasmania, and bronze winner Gundaroo, ACT.

“We didn’t get the prize but we flew the flag for Timboon and our beautiful coast and hinterland,” she said.

“Timboon was highly recognised just by being nominated.

“Often selection comes down to a fraction of a point between the winner and everybody else.

“We’ve got all of the elements which is why we won the state Gold and were national finalists.”

Ms Linley said many of the winners had entered several times before they tasted success.

“It took Timboon a couple of tries to win gold at the state level.

“As the town matures and evolves as a tourist destination there is every likelihood of success at the national level in the future.”

Ms Linley thanked Council’s Visitor Economy and Communications teams for putting the submission together.

The Tiny Tourism Town awards recognise Australian towns with a population under 1,500 people that offer amazing visitor experiences and are committed to increased visitation to their region.
