Come and work as a vital member of our Executive Support team here at Mareeba Shire Council, located within an easy one-hour drive from Cairns offering a regional lifestyle with all its benefits in relatively close proximity to Cairns.

The role:

Working closely with the CEO and Mayor, our Communications & Support Officer is responsible for the positive positioning and ongoing management of Council’s image and reputation. This position will also involve establishing and implementing high-quality communication strategies between Council Executive and the community to encourage community participation in the Local Government process.

What we are looking for:

You will have effective time management, organisational and research skills with the capacity to plan and schedule differing work demands to meet multiple priorities, tasks and deadlines Your written and verbal communication skills will be highly developed and you will have the ability to relate well and confidently communicate with a diverse range of people from members of the public to Councillors and MPs, management and staff, journalists, designers and external suppliers You will have a good working knowledge of media, journalism and public relations disciplines, be able to prepare accurate media releases in a clear, concise style and at speed and be able to establish and maintain media contacts and networks You will have experience with the Microsoft Office suite and online content management systems with the ability to develop and implement internal and external communication plans You will have a working knowledge of the three tiers of government in Australia along with the implementation of social marketing and public consultation activities
