To enhance affordable housing options for vulnerable seniors, the Town of Bassendean is pleased to announce a long-term partnership with Connect Victoria Park Inc. to manage tenancies of vacant units at Hyde Retirement Village. This new management agreement will extend until at least August 2029, ensuring ongoing support for older residents on low to moderate incomes.

Hyde Retirement Village comprises 31 independent living units, with Connect Victoria Park now managing 11 of these. Connect Victoria Park is an experienced community housing provider that owns and manages units and retirement villas in Victoria Park and operates a village hub to support older people in connecting with their community. The agreement covers both the current vacant units at Hyde Retirement Village and any additional units that may become available.

The units offer affordable housing for older people, with priority given to older women and those with a connection to the Town of Bassendean. Connect Victoria Park’s supportive approach to tenancy management has led to positive outcomes, enabling residents to maintain independence for longer and fostering strong relationships through regular visits, social connections, and access to a range of support services.

Hyde Retirement Village has transformed into a vibrant and social community with full occupancy thanks to this collaboration. Connect Victoria Park has successfully integrated its tenants with the traditional residents of the village, organising regular coffee catch-ups, providing information on various services, and promoting local groups for social connection. Additionally, tenants benefit from membership in Connect Victoria Park’s Village Hub, further enhancing their quality of life.

A successful pilot project ran from mid-2022 to mid-2024, during which Connect Victoria Park managed the tenancies of vacant units at Hyde Retirement Village. An assessment of the pilot project highlighted successful outcomes, with units leased to individuals over the age of 60 with low to moderate incomes. This strategic partnership reflects the Council's commitment to providing affordable accommodation for vulnerable seniors, especially older women, amid a high rental market.

The Town looks forward to continuing this successful partnership with Connect Victoria Park, contributing to the well-being of our older residents and the overall vitality of Hyde Retirement Village.
