An unnamed road east of the Kerang central business district now has a name following two months of community engagement.
The unnamed road that connects Kerang-Koondrook Road and Lower Murray Water’s Kerang wastewater treatment facility will be now known as Cedar Lane following the endorsement of a recommendation at the September 2024 Council meeting.
“Council thanks all residents who took the time to provide feedback during the two engagement periods, which resulted in varying options submitted for Council to consider as part of the naming process,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
The process to name the unnamed road began in June after Council received a request for the road to be named White Cedar Lane, recognising the deciduous Australian native that is found throughout eastern Australia.
Council initially asked residents for their views on the proposal during June and July, which resulted in 16 names recognising historic family links to the area, fauna and flora suggested as alternatives.
Residents were then asked during July and August to state their top three preferred naming options from a shortlist of 12 names that aligned with Victorian Department of Transport and Planning guidelines and Council’s Asset Naming policy and procedure.
“During the second stage of engagement, 49 people took the time to provide a response, with Cedar Lane receiving 24 first preference votes, whilst Meadow Lane, Tasca Lane and Maple Lane also popular choices,” Mr Rollinson said.
Cedar Lane will also be added to Council’s Roads Register as an unsealed access-major road, which will be upgraded to Council’s road standards and at the cost of the developer of a property that the road connects to.
