The Albany Town Hall will host a truly unique Western Australian musical experience with the upcoming performance and album launch of Kiangardarup by renowned musician Robert Zielinski.

The engaging composition, created for violin, wooden flute, cello, and bouzouki, draws inspiration from beautiful Torbay Inlet where Zielinski lived and worked as a violin maker and touring musician.

Kiangardarup, one of the original names of Torbay inlet and surrounding country in the language of the Menang people, takes the audience on a journey through day and night.

Beginning with the awakening dawn, moving through the heat of the day, to dusk, and finally concluding with a serene night spent under the karri forest and stars, ending by the coals and flames of a campfire.

Zielinski learned traditional Irish music by ear in Australia and on Ireland's West Coast, where he lived for 14 years; in 2000 he won Ireland's Michael Coleman Fiddle Player of the Year Award.

Acting Manager Arts and Culture Soraya Majidi expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming performance.

“Kiangardarup is a stunning musical tribute to the natural beauty and cultural heritage of our region and Robert Zielinski’s ability to capture the essence of the Great Southern’s landscapes through music is nothing short of remarkable,” she said.

"We are thrilled to bring this deeply moving and immersive experience to the Albany Town Hall, offering our community a rare opportunity to connect with the sounds and stories of this land.”

Robert recorded his violin outside over the course of 18 months on the violin he made in Torbay in the very places that inspired the piece.

The other instruments were added later in Lee Buddle’s studio in Perth, where Melinda Forsythe (cello), Manuela Centanni (wooden flute) and Jim Green (bouzouki) meticulously added their parts over a further two-year period.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience Kiangardarup—a celebration of the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Great Southern region on Friday 8 November.

This performance will launch the Kiangardarup album, which will be available to purchase along with your tickets or at the show. Tickets are available at https://albany-events.bookable.net.au/

A matinee performance will be supported by the City Seniors Week program with discounted seniors' tickets available. This show will be followed by a meet and greet and includes a catered light lunch.
