If you own a private swimming pool or spa, it is mandatory to install a safety barrier. The City of Fremantle is required to conduct pool and spa inspections every four years, to ensure safety barriers are always compliant.

What you can doWe also encourage you to do regular self-assessments in between inspections by going through the Rules for pools and spas—a simple checklist and using it to guide you on what to check, fix and maintain. This checklist is not intended to replace and is not as effective as a City of Fremantle inspection.
Keep WatchRoyal Life Saving WA’s Keep Watch program has been advising Australian parents and carers about how to keep their children safe when in and around water. Almost all toddler drownings are due to a lack of active adult supervision.
