The Shire of Boddington is pleased to announce the upcoming release of a Request for Proposal (RFP) to the market for the development of a new Residential Aged Care facility. This initiative is in direct response to the long-term priority of the local community to provide better support and care options for our ageing population.
This significant project aligns with the Shire’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality services for residents, ensuring that our community members can access aged care services close to home. The facility will be designed to cater to the needs of our elderly, providing a comfortable, safe, and nurturing environment.
At a recent Project Steering Group meeting, Federal Government Representatives praised the work of the Council and Steering Group, for the progressing this complex project in such a short timeframe.
Key achievements since 2021 have included:
Development of an Aged Care Services and Accommodation Strategy, confirming the demand. Direct approaches made to a number of potential service providers to determine the likelihood for a private or not-for-profit organisation to deliver the project. Site assessment and selection. Council endorsed the land within the Hospital Precinct as the preferred site. Purchase of two blocks of land within the preferred Precinct, to enable flexibility in relation to master planning of the site, and in order to maximise the potential of attracting a suitable provider to operate the facility. Consideration and approval of various incentives to attract an operator in a low supply high demand market. Liaison with the Western Australian Country Health Service (WACHS) to receive in principle support for the transfer of a portion of the land adjacent to the Hospital, to the Shire. Development of a Request for Proposal, and subsequent Council endorsement. The timing for the release of the RFP is considered optimal, given the Federal Governments recent announcement of widespread financial reform of the aged care sector, which will assist in the viability of operators.
The RFP will seek innovative proposals from qualified providers with a strong track record in delivering aged care services. The Shire is focused on fostering partnerships that will deliver state-of-the-art care facilities, with an emphasis on quality of life, community engagement, and sustainability.
Shire President Cr Ventris stated, "We recognise the need for increased residential aged care capacity in our region. This project is a reflection of the community’s long-standing vision and our commitment to ensuring that our seniors receive the care and support they deserve."
The RFP will be open for submissions from 24 September 2024 via, https://www.boddington.wa.gov.au/council/our-council/tenders.aspx
