Work on the Stan Twight Reserve Clubroom Redevelopment on Hennessy Way, which was constructed in 1992, is underway with the contract awarded to local company Shelford Constructions.
The redevelopment will include:
demolition of the existing clubhouse buildingconstruction of a new clubhouse and changeroomupgrade to floodlightingextension to the existing car park.The reserve is the home ground of the Shoalwater Bay Cricket Club, Safety Bay Stingers Football Club, and the Rockingham Masters AFL Club. The reserve is also utilised to host Cricket Country Week matches run by WA Cricket.
Funding partners for the project include:
Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through the Community Sports and Recreation Facility FundWest Australian Football Commission via the WA Football Facilities Fund and Australian Football LeagueWA Cricket and Cricket Australia through the Australian Cricket Infrastructure FundThe clubs also contributed to embellishments in the kitchen and social space.Construction is scheduled to commence in September and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025.
“The much-needed new clubroom and changeroom will meet the current and future needs of the sporting clubs based at Stan Twight Reserve, and help the City maximise use of this facility in line with expected participation trends,” City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said.
Safety Bay Stingers Football Club President Jo Croft said: "We are so excited for this next chapter in our club history as we continue building and growing from strength to strength."
Rockingham District Masters Football Club President Mark Vernal said: "Our club is excited to have our own home ground for the first time in 26 years. We look forward to having modern facilities to use and a secure long-term future with Safety Bay Football Club and Shoalwater Bay Cricket club at Stan Twight reserve."
Shoalwater Bay Cricket Club President Justin Kennedy said: “We are excited to be moving into this next chapter for Shoalwater Bay Cricket Club, it’s an amazing opportunity for local cricket, our members and the community and we cannot thank the City of Rockingham enough for their assistance and support in making this happen.”
