Learn how to prepare for emergencies at the City of Wanneroo’s free Emergency Preparedness Community Event on Saturday 19 October.

Enjoy a sausage sizzle and children’s activities and take home a showbag full of information and resources to help prepare and plan for natural hazards and other major emergencies.

Mayor Linda Aitken said with 90 per cent of the City of Wanneroo in a bushfire prone area, it was important all residents were ready for an emergency.

“It is critical you have a plan to protect yourself, your loved ones, your animals and your home from storms, bushfires and other natural hazards,” she said.

“It’s been nearly a year since the devastating Mariginiup bushfire, which showed just how quickly and easily a bushfire can spread – in just four days, the fire burned through 1,900 hectares and destroyed 18 homes.

“While it’s easy to think it won’t happen to you, bushfires are becoming more frequent and intense, so it is important to be prepared.”

Held at Bunnings Wangara, the community event will also include a meet and greet with fire fighters, petting zoo, demonstrations, kid’s activities and a sausage sizzle to raise funds for the Youth in Emergency Services Cadets.
