StoryFest CQ – Celebrating Storytelling!

Posted on September 24, 2024

Families and students from Emerald and Blackwater primary and secondary schools recently gathered for a two-day literary spectacular at the Emerald Showgrounds.

Storyfest CQ brought a group of accomplished children’s authors together to deliver a range of creative writing workshops designed to ignite a passion for reading and storytelling among local youth.

Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Janice Moriarty said the event was a huge success and a great addition to the Central Highlands events calendar.

‘Having Storyfest CQ in Emerald gives our local children and youth the opportunity to learn in interactive and fun ways, outside of the school setting,’ she said.

Mayor Moriarty thanked Storyfest for bringing their program from south-east Queensland to rural communities like Emerald and Longreach.

‘We are hoping to secure another event in 2025 so that students, schools, and families from even more towns and communities across the region can participate in the story-telling and creative writing activities,’ she added.

Mayor Moriarty also acknowledged the significant contributions of Linda Smyth, a member of the Emerald Community Reference Group (CRG), for her dedication to making the event a success.

‘A huge thank you to Linda, who volunteered an enormous amount of her time and energy to working with the Storyfest team and local sponsors to bring this event to life,’ she said.
