Nominations for Wodonga’s 2025 Australia Day Awards have opened, with community members encouraged to acknowledge the significant contributions of individuals and organisations to Wodonga.     Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Organisation of the Year will be recognised in a ceremony held on Sunday, January 26. This event, hosted annually by the council, is one of several Australia Day celebrations held around the country each year.     Wodonga’s 2024 Citizen of the Year was Elizabeth Harvey, who was recognised for her prolific volunteer work and role with the Country Women’s Association (CWA).Â
Elizabeth says it’s important to acknowledge people’s good work and community achievements as a means to encourage others. Â
"I was honoured to be recognised by my peers as Citizen of the Year for 2024.Â
“The Australia Day Awards are an excellent opportunity to highlight some of the amazing work undertaken by members of our local community and I would strongly encourage everyone to consider nominating someone for this Award."Â
Elizabeth moved to Wodonga in 2012 to be closer to family. She was the secretary of the Wodonga CWA for a decade, during which she helped to support organisations including the Centre Against Violence, Hilltop Cancer and Carer Centre, and Travellers Aid. Â
Nominations close on Friday, November 15. Complete an online nomination form here. Â
