Charters Towers Regional Council is reinforcing its dedication to transparent and accountable governance through its newly developed Community Engagement Strategy 2024-2028.

This comprehensive framework outlines Council's approach to actively engaging with the community, ensuring that public participation is at the heart of its decision-making processes.

The Strategy guides Council in selecting tailored engagement methods for key stakeholders, based on best practices from the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2).

Deputy Mayor Cr Kate Hastie expressed the importance of community involvement in shaping the future of the region.

"Our community is at the core of everything we do and by implementing this Strategy, we aim to ensure that every voice is heard, and that our decisions reflect the aspirations and needs of our residents.

Building trust and maintaining transparent communication with our community is essential for sustainable growth.

This Strategy is not just a plan, it's our commitment to working collaboratively with our community to achieve a shared vision for the Charters Towers region."

The successful implementation of the Strategy will rely on the collective efforts of Council, employees, contractors, consultants, and key stakeholders which aims to build a better region where people want to live, work, and visit.

"Engagement is not a one-time event, it's an ongoing dialogue and we are committed to continuously improving our engagement practices, ensuring that our community feels valued and involved in every step of our journey," said Cr Hastie.

The Strategy will provide a consistent and flexible process for Council employees, guiding them in selecting the most appropriate methods and levels of engagement for various projects or decisions which will also support Council’s Community Strategic Plan (CSP).

Charters Towers Regional Council remains steadfast in its commitment to engaging with its communities in a transparent, open, and accountable way, ensuring that the voices of its residents are integral to the region's future.
