The NSW Electoral Commission has declared the outcome of the September Local Government Elections, with a mix of former Councillors and new faces set to join popularly elected Mayor Matt Gould on Wollondilly Shire Council for the next four years.
The four East Ward Councillors are Suzy Brandstater, Matthew Deeth, Paul Rogers and Benn Banasik. Hilton Gibbs, Jacqueline Jenson, Ally Dench and Trish Hill will represent the North Ward.
Mayor Matt Gould has welcomed the incoming Councillors and thanked the outgoing Councillors for their commitment to the Wollondilly community over the last two years and nine months.
“Congratulations to all the successful candidates, and a warm welcome to the new Councillors. I am really looking forward to working with the newly formed Council to represent our community and advocate for this amazing Shire,” he said.
“This coming term is hugely important for the future of our Shire as the population growth in our NSW Government mandated growth areas takes off exponentially, meaning we will have to focus our efforts on securing infrastructure and jobs for these areas, as we also enhance our existing towns and villages and protect what we love about Wollondilly.”
“We certainly have a big task ahead of us, but with the passionate group of people who will make up the new Council I am confident that we can continue to deliver for our community.”
“I’d also like to thank our outgoing Councillors Blair Briggs, Beverley Spearpoint, Judith Hannan and Michael Banasik for your service during this past term of Council.”
Following a comprehensive induction process, the new Mayor and Councillors will be publicly sworn in on 8 October and a Deputy Mayor appointed.
The first Ordinary meeting of Council is scheduled for 29 October. Details of the new Councillors will be on Council’s website in the coming week.
